It is not everyday that an Eaton Rapids graduate becomes a leader in his or her industry. Marla Terranova Vickers, an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, and a graduate of Central Michigan University , has recently been named the new general manager of the Montgomery Biscuits baseball team. With her new position, Terranova-Vickers becomes the first female general manager at the AA level or above. She has also become one of merely four women to serve as a general manager in Minor League Baseball, all of whom before her have been at a lower level.
Terranova-Vickers has been working with the Montgomery Biscuits since the beginning. She is even sometimes referred to as the first Biscuits employee.
Terranova-Vickers is not the only member of the family that has a connection to the team. In 2003, to come up with the name of the team the association held a contest. The team received almost 350 entries. Tripp Vickers, Marla’s newlywed husband, submitted the name “Biscuits”. When that name was pulled everyone loved it, and the name stuck.
Her new promotion came as no big surprise though, “It something we had been talking about for a while, I was just excited to start a new thing” said Terranova-Vickers. And everyone on the staff is ready for her to take on her new responsibilities. Her family is more than delighted for her “We were all so happy about the news,” said younger sister, Mallory Kunkel ’11.
Responses to the news, from past high school friends and coaches, about Terranova-Vickers promotion were everywhere, from in the hallways to the classrooms. “I was ecstatic, I had the biggest smile on my face,” said Mrs. Surato when she heard the news. “Marla Terranova is my life long best friend, classmate, and the girl I did everything with. I am proud of her, her new position is huge.” Terranova-Vickers was very involved in the student life at Eaton Rapids High School . She participated in school sports such as: the girls’ soccer team and basketball team. On top of that Terranova-Vickers held a good academic standing. Terranova-Vickers graduated with the class of 1999.
A former student here at ERHS, Terranova-Vickers is continuing to achieve greater things in life. The teachers, staff, and high school friends can all, with out a doubt, say they are proud of her immense accomplishments.
Terranova-Vickers has surely become a role model to all teens. Her accomplishments prove that when you set your mind to a goal, anything is possible; even taking the title as the first female general manager of a baseball team.
