Graduating Senior: Jasmine Williams

Written by: Jasmine Williams '12
Being a senior in high school is the time where major changes start to happen and for once, you are the person who decides where you are going to go in life. Yes, senior year is tons of fun-- being at the peak of your high school career, being “grown”, and finally graduating from high school, but it is also very stressful.
The time has arrived to make the big decisions about which fork in the road you will choose in your life, and the course of the rest of your life is dependent upon these choices. Whew, if that is not stressful, I do not know what is!
Reality finally kicks in when you are a senior, or at least it did for me. I now know that life outside of high school is so close and that I have to be ready for it when it comes. As a senior you do not need to know exactly what you want in life but by this time you should have a really good idea, because soon you have to settle on what you want.
The point of high school to prepare you, not just academically, but socially, and emotionally for college or adult life. For underclassmen, I would suggest that you take high school seriously and take some AP classes; they might sound like they are really difficult, burdensome, and just plain suck (all of which I thought at first) but they really aren’t any worse (which I found out) than a regular class. If you don’t think an AP class is right for you, just stay focused on your grades; with or without an AP class you can still have phenomenal grades, and if you do, colleges will love that (if that’s where you want your future to be).
However, at the same time don’t forget to have fun, because at this point in life you don’t have to worry about too much. Once you out of high school and the real world hits, things will get more serious, and quickly.
So enjoy the time you have here, don't make it seem like it is such a burden, and get ready, adulthood is right around the corner.
